Little Hercules

2004 – 2006

Little Hercules is the third in a series of theme related sculptures. This piece is an evolution from previous years of early work on the moving, fitting, splitting and carving of stone indigenous to the region. Dr. Rosen captures the spirit and innocence of a child building his strength through body and mind in an attempt to emulate an adult role model.

Rosen was inspired by his grandchildren, and to quote one of his grandsons at age 5,

“I want to be stwong like my grandpa”.

Little Hercules is a whimsical, feel good, stone sculpture standing six feet tall mounted atop a stone installation approximately four feet above ground level.

Somewhat like previous works the sculpture was constructed by superimposing gravity retained horizontal layers of carved sedimentary stone.
